ENDOSIM AR Masters Course
The Endosim Masters Course is done via Augment/ Virtual Reality. Each participant has their own training station which can be at the hospital, surgery center, lab or even at home. The participants can use their own surgical or endoscopic equipment, or it can be provided by Endosim. Our audiovisual software and hardware allows a picture-in-picture mode of the procedure view in addition to the participants webcam view. Additional cameras can be used to show the participants hands or instruments during the simulated case. Each participant is connected to a tutor who teaches the class remotely using the Endosim VR training platform. The tutor can interact with the trainees by watching their procedure screen live online and provide real time feedback. The teacher can demonstrate the procedure to the participants step by step. Feedback can be verbal but also in the form of augmented reality on the participants screen. The tutor can point out target areas, explain surgical techniques and guide the trainee through each step of the procedure on the screen of the participant. We also have the ability to use a white board to illustrate surgical techniques or run a PowerPoint presentation that can be observed by participants via the video conferencing platform.
The efficiency of this hands-on training program is as close as possible to an in-person course but with less cost, less exposure risk and more convenience. Neither the faculty or the trainees have to travel to attend the course or be in contact with travelers and other attendees during the training. Masters ESD Course with Dr Stavros Stavropoulos
Learning Objectives:
Understand the theory and practice of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)
Performance of procedure in a simulated hands-on session guided by an expert faculty
Understand potential complications during ESD including endoscopic management
About Dr Stavros Stavropoulos
I decided to pursue a career in medicine to help people in need. I chose to specialize in gastroenterology because it allows me to use minimally invasive procedures to rapidly and successfully treat patients.
I was the first surgeon in the United States to perform a peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), a revolutionary noninvasive endoscopic procedure for achalasia. I have performed the largest volume of POEMs in the U.S., with over one third of our patients coming from across the country and the world.
I pioneered endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic full thickness resection (EFTR) in the U.S. ESD is a procedure to remove early gastric, esophageal, duodenal, and colon cancers without invasive surgery or scarring. EFTR is a nonsurgical procedure to remove submucosal tumors. NYU Winthrop Hospital is one of the leading institutions for interventional endoscopy and endoscopic surgery.
I also treat a variety of other digestive disorders, including cancer, stones, and other conditions of the pancreatobiliary system that require endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. I provide the best care possible to every patient, and treat each one as a member of my own family.
I am proud to be recognized as a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. I am active in clinical research and have published more than 100 articles and have been invited to lecture at more than 100 national and international conferences.
