EVIDENCE-BASED SIMULATION

EGD/EMR/ESD

  • To simulate EGD, EMR, and ESD, a porcine esophagus-stomach-duodenum specimen can be used.
  • The ex-vivo tissue promotes a realistic endoscopy experience, in particular for tissue dissection and resection techniques.
  • To mark lesions dye is used to stain the mucosa or APC and/or cautery may be used.
  • Esophageal varices can be simulated by submucosal injection of colored fluid for the simulation of endoscopic band ligation.
  • Artificial polyps are created to simulate polypectomy procedures.

Colonoscopy

  • To simulate colonoscopy, a porcine or bovine specimen can be used.
  • The ex-vivo tissue promotes a realistic endoscopy experience, in particular for tissue dissection and resection techniques.
  • To mark lesions dye is used to stain the mucosa or APC and/or cautery may be used.
  • Artificial polyps are created to simulate polypectomy procedures.

Below are typical specimens used for these types of procedures.
