• The Neo-Papilla™ was designed Matthes and Cohen as a modification of porcine ex-vivo simulators. Chicken heart tissue, attached to the duodenum, is used to simulate the sphincter of Oddi muscle. The modified version on the Neo-Papilla™ II, developed by Matthes, uses a plastic construction that attaches the chicken heart.
  • This setup allows the rapid exchange of the chicken heart to facilitate multiple sphincterotomies in one specimen. Interventional ERCP techniques can be performed with direct visualization of the devices in the artificial CBD and PD simulated through the clear tubing. This method of training obviates the requirement of fluoroscopy.
