Pulmonary Simulation Models:

Complete Simulation Model = Trainer (hardware) + Real Tissue Specimen (software)

Our simulation models use two components: a plastic trainer (hardware) used in conjunction with a disposable ex-vivo specimen (software). Some disposable specimens are hybrid models combining plastic, silicon with real tissue. These types of models are single-use disables cartridges. The use of cartridges allows an easy setup and exchange of simulation models even without pre-experience.

Simulation Trainers (hardware) – used in conjunction with real tissue ex-vivo specimens

Surgical Location Name of Trainer Description Used commonly with which real tissue models …
Upper Airway Head Mannequin Anatomically shaped head mannequin with oropharyngeal airway
  • Oropharyngeal Tumor Cartridge
  • Airway Bleeding Cartridge
Lower Airway and Lungs EASIE-R 2 Simulator Completely refined simulation model with flat bottom tray. This model contains a second bottom PEG board with adjustable alligator clamp to facilitate the use of organs of different type, size and shape. The alligator clamps can be adjusted to perfectly adapt to the size and type of specimen. This trainer can be used for diagnostic and therapeutic pulmonary procedures.
  • EBUS Cartridge

Real Tissue Ex-vivo Specimens (software)

Surgical Location Name of Specimen Contains which organs… Used commonly for which procedure …
Oropharyngeal Tumor Model Ex-vivo specimen of oropharynx, tongue, vocal cords and trachea with artificial tumors Excision of tumors in the upper airway
Upper Airway Bleeding Model Ex-vivo specimen of oropharynx, tongue, vocal cords and trachea with bleeding vessels sutured into the oropharynx Management of upper airway bleeding with cautery
Tonsillectomy Model Ex-vivo specimen of oropharynx, tongue, vocal cords and trachea. Artificial tonsils can be resected
  • Tonsillectomy
  • Tonsillotomy
EBUS Cartridge Endobronchial ultrasound model for the training of EUS-guided lymph node biopsy. Ex-vivo porcine specimen consists of trachea, lungs and artificial lymph nodes in anatomically correct locations
  • Diagnostic EBUS
  • EBUS-guided lymph node biopsy

Endobronchial Ultrasound Model

We recently developed a novel endobronchial ultrasound model for the training of EUS-guided lymph node biopsy. This model uses porcine tissue to resemble a real trachea. Real tissue lymph nodes are located in the correct anatomical position. The tissue haptics when the needle penetrates the trachea and then the lymph node provide human-like experience. Tracheal bleeding can be simulated as well.
